  • Arborist Reports for Private Tree Removal

Removing a tree requires a permit in the City of Toronto and most of the GTA. Along with the permit, a replant plan is required. A certified arborist at Cohen and Master will produce a professional report to assess the condition of your tree and provide recommendations for replanting. We will assess your property and recommend tree species that have been pre-approved by the city and are appropriate for specific local conditions. Our staff will take care of the entire permit process, inform you if/when the permit is approved, and schedule a date for removal (if desired).

  • Tree Preservation Plans and Arborist Reports for Construction and Development

Any building development, home improvements, or construction in Toronto, Vaughan, Markham, Mississauga, Oakville, Richmond Hill, Burlington, or Brampton require a Tree Preservation Plan and Arborist Report to proceed.

At Cohen and Master our ISA certified consulting arborists produce professional tree preservation plans specifically written for each unique client and situation. We work with clients, developers, architects, and city foresters to provide tree preservation and replant plans that will satisfy regulations and Tree Protection By-laws, while working with clients to navigate the process of applying for the appropriate permits. We also provide a free quote for all tree and soil work (pruning, removals, replanting, etc.) required by the City to proceed with construction. When your development project receives approval, our arborists will be familiar with the project and ready to go with all the tree related services required.

  • Tree Risk Assessments

Our Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ) arborists will produce an objective risk assessment report for private individuals as well as public organizations. Our reports and assessments evaluate the risk of individual trees or larger tree stands to specified targets using the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) standards and best practises. The Arborist will also provide options to mitigate any found risk and provide an assessment of residual risk if the mitigation recommendations are followed.

  • Arborist On-site

Protecting the trees on a construction site is important to both public organizations and property owners. Municipalities’ will often stipulate having an “Arborist On-Site” as a requirement for construction around trees that will likely injure the canopy or the roots. Our certified arborist will work with you to provide expert opinions to your contractors on-site along with a report that outlines the scope of work and measures taken to fulfill protection requirements around the trees. At Cohen and Master, we have the expertise and the specialized tools to protect trees, roots, and soil from construction injuries.

    • Expert opinion on-site to avoid excessive damage to roots and canopy during construction
    • Root excavation and exploration, using non-invasive air excavation tools
    • Root Pruning
    • Documentation and report writing
