Green roofs are now a regulatory requirement for large scale construction projects in the city. Unfortunately, many are being neglected by their owners and as the plants fade they are at risk of the soils being blown right off the roofs and the roof membranes being exposed.
Green roofs reduce heating and cooling costs for the building. They extend the life of the roof membrane two to three times and, most importantly, help cool the entire city.
They are worth maintaining properly which extends only to some regular fertilization and infrequent weeding!
